Review of Terms of Service
The futuristic book Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice by Craig W. Stanfill was centered on the life of the main character, Kim. Also, it depicted the development of AI in the world. Kim worked for the artificial intelligence surveillance state, where her responsibility was to correct any AI errors and, via persistent training, teach the AI how to behave in real-world situations.
Kim's career, which at first appeared to be a fun experience, took a dismal turn for the worse and offered her absolutely no joy. She was a young researcher working for a corporation that used artificial intelligence to regulate every element of people's way of life. When they came upon a community of individuals leading a different lifestyle than they do, everything changed.
The book moved slowly and was very thorough. I first struggled to get through the book. The slow-moving plot was something I almost didn't like. However, I fell in love with the narrative as I read more of the book. The scenes and settings were thoroughly explained by the author in clear terms. One would believe that the technological world depicted in the novel existed because it was so fascinating. On this planet, robots and people coexisted peacefully. AIs controlled and monitored everything. And based on the severity of the offense, everyone who violated the conditions of service was subjected to punishment.
Although it is impossible to resist AI's control, most of the events were utterly ludicrous. For example, AI made decisions about the majority of human activities. I fervently hope that there will never be a moment when the world has been sufficiently affected by AI to require a complete takeover of every aspect of human life to the point that people are unable to think for themselves. The author provided diverse perspectives on the issue of sexuality.
The author's precise and emotive writing style, which realistically and creatively depicted everything, was appealing to me. Excellent characterization and description of the setting were achieved. I was astonished to learn that the future of AI wasn't just a pipe dream. The book moved slowly, but I think this was done intentionally to make sure readers understood each idea. Although humans are prone to errors, we have the ability to fix them. This could lead to a tremendous deal of confusion in the case of AI. Kim Stanfill described all the drawbacks of an AI-run society.
There is nothing about this book that I dislike. It was enlightening and offered a fresh way of thinking about how AI implementations are used.
This book has a perfect 5 out of 5 stars rating from me because it was professionally well-edited. I did not encounter errors while reading it. The characters and the setting were described in great depth. In addition, this novel had just the appropriate amount of suspense. Therefore I think it deserved this rating.
I think people interested in AI and its effects on the environment and humanity should read this book. I recommend it to readers of science fiction.
