The book “Terms of Service” by Craig W. Stanfill follows a young lady named Kim and her journey of self-discovery 250 years in the future. Although, how can she do this with Artificial Intelligences analysing her every move and something as little as approaching someone in public or intimacy without the Artificial Intelligences approval is classified illegal? Freedom and privacy are ancient memories. Even everyday appliances such as a fridge has been converted into Artificial intelligences that record peoples every move in what should be the privacy of their own home. Kim dreams of freedom, individuality, and a life she has full control over.

I enjoyed every moment of this book and found it to be the first thing I thought of when I would wake in the morning. The concept and idea of this futuristic world had my mind running wild and building comparisons with today’s world. I admit the story is slow building, but the way Stanfill describes the world and characters made it worth it; it all really came to life in my mind. The character development and interactions all felt authentic and well thought out. Kim was a loveable protagonist which I could easily relate to and feel for.

If I was to pick at this book, I did find it could get a bit over explained. For example, baseball is a big thing in the future. I feel like the author spent too much time describing a baseball game when I could have been getting to know Kim and her friends better. I personally am not a sports person and could not care for the amount of description I was provided with. This was also the case with a few other instances in the book.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was a very well written and edited book which captivated me and left me wanting more. I am very eager to read the sequel, therefor it is deserving of a high rating.

I would say the recommended audience is young adults who love futuristic Sci-Fi that focus a bit more on drama. It would be a very good first Sci-Fi book to read because the author has written in a way that’s easy to follow and grasp. “Terms of Service” does include very mild profanities and some sexual content, therefore, if you are sensitive to this be wary.
