The book revolves around the idea that fear is power, with the main plot centering on Galen, a refugee from the chaotic Lands of the Princes. Galen seeks to inherit his uncle's prosperous forgery business in the prosperous kingdom of Voulhire, with the help of his executor, Rowan. However, it is unclear whether Rowan is trustworthy. Meanwhile, in the town of Hillport, two lords have been lost in less than a year, and King Wilhelm has appointed Eldus Alderman to revive the economy and protect the people from the fear of the unknown. The fear is caused by the looming threat of darkness, which is related to the madness of the most powerful mage and the Caromentis, a world unknown to humanity.

The author of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, Matthew Tysz, has created a fantasy world that also touches on real-world issues such as politics, power abuse, economics, and social justice. The world building and characterization are noteworthy aspects of the book, with a map at the beginning aiding readers in visualizing the locations and well-crafted characters making it easy to imagine their appearances and morality.

This book stands out for its world-building and characterization. The author's effort in providing a map at the beginning aids in creating a better visualization of the kingdom and towns, making it effortless for readers to imagine and to avoid losing track of the plot. Additionally, the author crafted each character's traits with precision, making it easy to picture their appearance and their moral compass. Despite its slow pace, the plot keeps readers engrossed and curious about what will happen next, and the glossary of terms included at the end of the book makes any alien words easy to understand.

However, the book's multiple points of view at the beginning of the story can be perplexing and may hinder readers from forming a connection with the characters. Another flaw is that the author did not make the timeline clear, leaving readers unsure of when the events occurred. Though, based on some of the dialogues, it is a blend of traditional and modernity. Despite these shortcomings, I still rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

In conclusion, this book is highly recommended for those adult readers who love fantasy with a hint of realism, and it is not suitable for young readers due to explicit content, including grotesque killings and pedophilia.
