Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
A night that started out like any other ended up being memorable. Castle Hillport had been attacked. Hillport was a small town in Voulhire's southernmost region. Meldorath, a magistrate, deposed Lord Orlin of Hillport. He was charged with deviant behavior toward children. Lord Orlin had no choice but to bestow the lordship of Hillport on Meldorath. Three months later, however, Lord Meldorath was arrested under the authority of the king for meddling with the lives of the people. Hillport has had to deal with two bad lords in a short time. Is the new lord going to be any better? Has Hillport seen the last of Meldorath?
Galen Bray from the Land of the Princes is also introduced. For years, a war raged in the Land of the Princes, and the people were forced to die by sword or slow starvation. Galen barely made it to Voulhire. It turns out to be a new beginning for him as he inherits his late uncle's estate. The estate was located in Magnum Caelum, a town in Voulhire. Galen sees a different world than the Land of the Princes. He meets new people and discovers their cultures. He finds himself exploring Voulhire and encountering exciting adventures while learning to be a blacksmith like his uncle.
This book's beginning was particularly appealing to me. Books that captivate me from the beginning pique my interest as a reader. I was also impressed by how descriptive the text was. As a reader, it sparked my imagination. The author included a map at the beginning of the book, which made things easier because some of the characters moved around. Following the map, the author included a character list. Reading a book with unusual names and locations can be challenging, but this made it easier. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is an impressive start to a series. It makes me eager to read the next installment.
We are introduced to new characters and their points of view in each chapter. Though this may help readers better understand the characters, it made the book difficult to read. There were also a few new words. Though learning something new is always a good thing, stopping to look up the meaning of a word to understand what's going on can be exhausting.
I rate this book four out of five stars. Overall, it was an exciting and compelling novel with fascinating characters. I also found no errors, indicating that it was well edited. However, the multiple points of view were distracting, and it can be annoying to constantly have to stop to look up the meaning of new words.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading adventure or fantasy. Those who enjoy delving into a new world through books will enjoy this book as well.
