Agatha the Beloved Queen by Fred Pilcher is based on the life of Agatha, a great queen of the land of Xana, and her subjects. Her mother, Queen Julia, gave birth to her shortly after the prince consort died in a war. Agatha was given the gifts of wisdom, compassion, and the ability to perceive character by her fairy godmother after her birth. Agatha started attending her mother's royal council at a young age and was saddened by the way the aristocrats of the land made money without considering the common people of Xana. As a princess with limited power and resources, she was not able to help the common people the way she wished, and the aristocrats also made things harder for her, which made Agatha vow to change all of these when she becomes queen. But on the day of her coronation, an evil sorceress named Magi, who had wreaked havoc on some cities, disrupted the ceremony and killed Queen Julia instantly. The responsibility of Xana has now fallen on Agatha. She has to make a choice: either fight Magi and take her rightful place as queen or surrender to the whims of Magi and watch Xana become like other cities Magi have destroyed.

I like that this book relates well to the situation of things in some places around the world where the people in positions of power, which they should use for the betterment of the people and the nation, divert the nation's treasure to their pocket without bothering about how the commoners live day by day. I also liked that the author introduces this book to us as one he picked up on a journey, not that he wrote it himself. This book teaches how to rule a country without being biased and shows that children also have a role to play in a nation's development and should be encouraged to be active in the things going on in their nation. This book showed deep details about the lives of the people of Xana, their culture, which does not see nudity as a thing to be ashamed of, their education system, where older pupils are encouraged to tutor the younger ones, and so many more. Agatha the Beloved Queen will take you back to a place of horses and carts, royal training, council meetings, and monarchy.

This book is a good work of fiction, and I didn't see anything to dislike about the book. I learned some lessons from the book, and one of them was that we should always strive to make the place we live in a better one. We should frown at all sorts of injustice and report it to the necessary authorities. Even people who have been gifted great gifts like the ones Agatha got from her godmother make mistakes. Agatha seemed to have no flaw in her character. I enjoyed reading about her life and the people of Xana.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is an intriguing work of fiction, and the plot is well developed. I found a few errors while reading it. This book is professionally well edited.

I recommend this book to young adults who love fantasy and medieval stories. It is unsuitable for children or people who are sensitive to erotic scenes and profane words.
