This is a dystopian story that may be happening now. Here we follow the story of Kim, a model citizen of the society. Following, or at least it seems, every perfectly well-built aspect of her life, tailored made to function in its best contribution to society. A world of perfect balance, where the AI control all aspects and make sure that everyone follows the companies Terms of Service.

Craig W. Stanfill beautifully portraits a not so difficult to imagine future world in his Terms of Service. In a world where today we all hear about Artificial Intelligence, lack of privacy, Virtual Reality, etc. He shows us in a very captivating way what a world of extremes could lead to. It is easy to follow, and it just completely submerges you into it pages where you could see this vision of the future actually happening. Not to mention the beautiful edition and writing that is able to convey so much, while navigation a difference in language and pronoun usage. Very character introduced in the book adds layers of complexity to the story showing us that in a world of apparent sameness there is so much difference.

Perhaps the only aspect that I would mention to be negative, is it stars quite slowly and builds up tension in time. Yet, I believe this slow beginning is necessary for the reader to truly understand the world and society Mr. Stanfill has constructed, it is necessary for us to fully understand Kim and her own awakening in self. It is also necessary wo one gets truly used to the odd way of speaking in this future world, so as when the pace truly picks up the reader is riding right along its pages.

I give Terms of Service a 5 out of 5 rating. The world construction is beautifully done, the characters are complex, and Kim’s where fully abled to capture me. What I truly love about a good dystopian world is that is a future that while you read it you are thinking, “hey I think this could actually happen” and this one checks the plausible future box for me. It made me question many things and how in our over stimulated society with fast consuming nature of humanity we might not be to far away, this one is for me one of these that since I see it happening, makes me want to start acting to stray far away from it, because it is not a nice picture of a future for humanity.

I recommend this book for an adult audience, mainly because I believe some level of self-awareness and maturity is needed to fully grasp the ins and outs of this society. I would also recommend it to all lovers of dystopian worlds, as this one is one, I am positive will rank high in the records. In me Mr. Stanfill has a now avid reader of his world and will be jumping right into the next installments of Kim’s Story, for I can’t wait and see how she will start a revolution of self in this society.
