Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
Due to advancements in the realm of authorship, many writers have emerged. While some authors are skilled and good, others are still perfecting their craft. Matthew Tysz is one of the authors who have perfected the craft of writing readable, captivating, and endearing books. He is a gifted writer, as evidenced by the publication of his book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies. In the "We are Voulhire" series, there are five books in total, and this is the first one.
"I'm Galen from the Lands of the Princes," is the title of the book's opening tale. Galen, the narrative's main character, is narrating a story in this section. Galen's native land was known as the Land of the Princes, as the title makes abundantly evident. Another succinct but thorough depiction of the Land of Princes is given by Galen. For instance, he states that in the Land of the Princes, the only options were gradual hunger or death by the sword. This indicates that it was a place marked by conflict and misery. Galen acted without hesitation when the chance presented itself. He is running away to Voulhire to see whether things are a little more equitable there.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This is because I found several aspects of it appealing. The first feature that I liked the most and that led me to give it this rating was the title, which fit the content of the book. Additionally, there were no grammatical or spelling mistakes in the book. Not to mention, the writing was beautiful, engaging, and well-organized. The various locations where the plot is set are well explained. Additionally, the first five pages contain a map that depicts some places mentioned in the novel.
By including a short narrative in the prologue, the author increased the book's appeal. The narrative connects to the book's primary narrative. Any reader would want to read the entire book because of the exquisite writing. I can therefore claim that the book's opening piqued my interest and had me ready for an action-packed narrative. A good writer writes in a style that the reader can comprehend, and Matthew Tysz achieved just that. I'm appreciative of the book's author. I'm including his novels on my list of must-reads and favorite authors.
Despite the simplicity of the story, the author included a link that would direct readers to a page on his website that contains more information about Voulhire and other concepts that were mentioned. At the beginning of the story, there is also a list of the characters, along with brief descriptions of each one. For readers' convenience, a glossary of phrases and unique names is provided at the end of the book.
Both the plot and the characters were adequately developed. Nothing about this book, which I read page by page, did not appeal to me. Galen was the protagonist I liked the most in the narrative. He was a smart man. He makes wise choices and takes advantage of the chance to leave a country that frequently experiences war. The character I loved the least was Rowan. Some readers might be shocked to learn why. Although Rowan assisted Galen in receiving his fortune, I felt that at times he acted cunningly.
There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. It was enjoyable to read. The story was told from both the first-person and third-person points of view. The dialogue added to the book's intrigue and appeal. Additionally, a reference guide with a summary of the content is offered at the end of the book. This book may be finished in one sitting because it is only 200 pages long. I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction that is exciting and action-packed.
