Matthew Tysz welcomes you to a world of mages, fighters, and thinkers. You will find everything you expect from a fantasy novel and even more: a captivating story, and a realm with swords, magic, and capes. It reminded me of stories told by the campfire.

Reading We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies you step into a land of prosperity and innovation. Ruled by the wise king Wilhelm and his chancellors, Voulhire portrays a nation that grows in wealth, knowledge, and technical skills. It represents a crossroads of culture and welcomes immigrants. While so many aspects are positive, Voulhire is not perfect. There is darkness present, in the form of the feared Riva Rohavi, misfits that perturb the peace well earned.

In this book, you have a delightful pick of many characters, each one with its own story. There are stories of family life, there are stories of learning and growing and there are stories of terror, pain, and loss. All things considered, while the stories seem different, they have one common point they circle back to the famous Dalehei Meldorath, which is right in the center of all the action. He has a unique way of being relevant to the whole realm, even in his absence, because of the admiration and fear he raises in people’s hearts.

The action keeps you for sure on your toes, because the story follows multiple leads and Matthew Tyszlikes likes to throw his characters in chaos, just to reveal how much true potential is hidden beneath and at the same time spice things up. It leaves you wanting more when you turn the last page. Happily, the story is continued in the next volume, and you can jump right to the next part. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was exceptionally well edited and an overall pleasant experience.

I enjoyed this book very much. The story is cohesive and the characters are well-balanced. The only negative part for me was the use of some terms like entrepreneur and macro management that seemed a little bit off in a world of chancellors and kings. For this reason, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to everyone that is a fan of fantasy realms and good medieval stories. Also, it might prove to be a good choice for those who want adventure, dynamism, and a touch of magic. Enjoy the ride.
