Review of Terms of Service
Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill is a science fiction novel that is set in a fictional future where everything is controlled by machines – the AIs. Everything was perfect at the beginning as AIs met all kinds of human needs. The AIs control every aspect of human life and undertake a lot of duties effortlessly and quickly. This helps in preventing likely disasters that might be caused by humans. Kimberly woke up with a headache and a hangover as a result of too many drinks she had the night before. She spent that morning interacting with the AIs. The AIs notified her of her schedules, prepared her coffee, read out the TV shows, and even ensured she took her medications. She works at an Artificial Intelligence Company as an AI trainer. She enjoys her job and one day hopes to get her deserved elevation. Everything was going perfectly for her an important realization hit her. She was surprised and devastated to find out how much change, the creation of AIs has brought to natural life. How will she cope with this revelation? How perfect could a life dominated by AIs be?
Terms of Service is an interesting novel, and I enjoyed every bit of it. First, I must commend the author for having the foresight to include the translation notice at the beginning of the book. The author did a great job of describing how life with AIs could be. This got me captivated and imaginative as I briefly thought of how perfect life could be with machines. However, as I read on, a lot of details about AIs got me glued and thinking if life with AIs could truly be perfect. This book has a great storyline and is highly intriguing, and thought-provoking. I like how the characters were well-developed, and the detailed descriptions of the actions in the book. For instance, the author didn't fail to show demeanor of Kimberly when interacting with the AIs.
I enjoyed reading Terms of Service. The only thing I disliked about the book was that the beginning was a bit slow and boring. However, the story soon gathered pace as I read on. I couldn't find any other fault in the book.
I will rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. That the book has a slow start does not in any way reduce its quality and intrigue. The book has a good plot, is well-written and the actions in the book are perfectly described. Also, I couldn't find any errors while reading the book which is proof that the book was exceptionally proofread and edited.
I would recommend Terms of Service to readers who are interested in reading fantasies and science fiction. This book combines the aforementioned genres. I would also recommend the book to those who major in the technological fields especially AI.
