Review of Earth Won
Earth Won is a book with 9 different chapters, each depicting a different story Seymour and Glen encounter. Travel into the future as the book brings you on an adventure to a discovery of a creature you might have not known of, a trip to the city with MIMI - the AI vessel, a night in a cave, how Seymour and Ruby both met, a rescue mission with TB - the AI tri-blade, how Seymour tediously repaired a turbine, how Seymour, Max and Ruby saved a calf, the preventable accident at the Command Center and lastly, life after death. All of these stories involve smart technologies that may exist in the near future!
This book is fairly simple to read, with pictures and easily accessible links to help you understand technical terms. This is present in all chapters and helps bring the story to life. I also appreciate how the author, Arthur Seymour, utilised a variety of adjectives and verbs to bring the characters to life, making the story more interesting and engaging. I also liked how all of the stories were interconnected so it wasn't too confusing when new characters were introduced especially when each chapter talks about a different adventure.
However, I didn't like how some paragraphs, such as on page 17, had different font sizes for no apparent reason. It made it a little difficult to read, but it only has a minor impact. Moreover, I do wish the stories were a little longer with more tension in each story to make it more exciting.
I give this a 3 out of 5 stars after considering all of the positive and negative aspects. I didn't rate it a 4 or a 5 as I believe the stories could have described more of the troubles and the surrounding while the characters were out on an adventure. I didn't give it a 1 or a 2 because the stories were all interesting and I enjoyed them all. Furthermore, I believe that the images and links included greatly aid in reading and visualizing the story without unnecessary breaks. These really helped keep the story going.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys imagining and exploring future lives. This book covered a wide range of adventures involving a wide range of technologies. So, if you enjoy these sci-fi adventures, I highly recommend this one. There also weren't any vulgar or profane words nor was there any sexual content hence, I find it suitable for teens or even children to enjoy.
There were also some errors made throughout the story like a punctuation mistake on pg 20, "Just then, Seymour's stomach growled for food loud enough to produce an echo in the cave. ", there is a missing comma between 'food' and 'loud'. Or grammar mistakes like on page 25, "In the sky, using clouds for cover, a huge triangular object was moving north at incredible speed," there should be an 'an' between 'at' and 'incredible'.
