We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book of the We are Voulhire series. Galen, a young man from the Land of Princes, was able to flee his country, where there was a conflict going on between the princes over who would be the sole heir to the emperor's realm. He was able to get away, and he proceeded to his uncle's estate at Magnum Caelum, a city in Voulhire. You discover information about Soulhire, Yamon Soul, Virko, and other Voulhire cities as you read the book. Every city has a unique function and has a unique history, which makes it intriguing.

Other characters are introduced, such as the monarch of Voulhire Wilhelm Arcolo and Lord Eldus Alderman, who was given control of Hillport, one of the cities in Voulhire. Meldorath, a strong mage who appears to be a threat to the kingdom with the magic of his potent incantations, is mentioned frequently throughout the book. It's remarkable how Meldorath was able to significantly impact the plot despite not physically being present.

The author's ability to capture my interest from page one is what I liked most about this book. He tells the story in a way that makes me, as a reader, curious about the Voulhire and their way of life. It is simple to picture the scene in one's mind after reading his descriptions of people and locations.

What i did not like about this book was how each chapter began with a narrative that had nothing to do with the chapter before it. This writing style took some getting accustomed to for me as a reader, and it was challenging to follow the narrative flow. It would have been good if the author could have combined the several stories into one cohesive narrative.

I will rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because it contains no errors, which means that the book was professionally edited. Since the only drawback I noted is his writing style, I don't feel the need to take away a star. I would suggest this book to those who enjoy dark fantasy, mystery, and adventure. This book is not suitable for a young reader, as it contains mature language, graphic violence, and murder scenes. The book discusses the abuse of minors; I would not recommend a reader sensitive to the subject to read the book.
