Review of The Magician's Secret
In The Magician's Secret by Charles Townsend, Delvin will first experience the glimpse of black magic when he witnesses the death of Borlock. His grievance will make him decide to continue the performance of the late magician. He came to Argent to work as a full time magician, where he performed magic and also read the fate of his customers. Being a traveling magician will put him in circumstances where he will help the princesses in ceasing the war that is happening between the towns. In the middle of their adventure, he will discover the capability of the stone he inherited from Borlock. Discovering the secret puts him in a life and death situation, especially when the person that killed his late instructor will be after him and the stone that he has.
What I like about the book is the adventure of Delvin, Maeger, and Jarah. I really like their bond, even though their personalities are not similar to each other, they are able to create plans and succeed to their goal. Also, I really love how Grimbolt and Delvin trust each other. They keep the stones' secrets and focus on what it can do to eliminate the war that is happening between the Kingdom of Hangel and Argent. Moreover, I really love the character of Grimbolt. He might be a little brutal at the beginning, but as the story goes by, you will appreciate the things he did to ensure the safety of everyone.
What I don't like about the book is the part where Jarah and the Dukes didn't even invite Delvin to the celebration of their victory. Though, Jarah reimburses all coins that are spent, but the fact that they didn't appreciate the sacrifices of Delvin is what put me off. To be able to cease the war, he did every possible plan he could think of, and even put himself at risk just to stop it.
I will rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars, because I really like and appreciate the sacrifices that Delvin made to be able to finish a war that he is not even concerned about. I can also totally relate to the personality of Grimbolt; he may be cold on the outside, but his warmth can be felt when he did things to everyone he treasured.
I will recommend this book to young adults, because I feel like they are the ones that can totally relate to the personalities of the characters. They will also enjoy the story, since it is a science fiction story where magic and magicians are involved.
