Review of We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies
The Land of the Princes is not a place for the poor or the weak. Galen's decision to leave the land was the best one he could have made for himself. After a few days at sea, he arrived safely in Magnum Caelum, where he met Rowan, the executor of his deceased uncle. He moved to the house he inherited. He made friends, traveled, and began working on his late uncle's steel company. Magnum Caelum is one-of-a-kind, but in a good way. Rowan teaches him about women and courtship, as well as the value of saving money and being frugal.
King Wilhelm has dispatched Lord Eldus Alderman, a former judge, to Hillport to revitalize the town's economy. Will this make any difference? People are terrified and fed up with waiting. They no longer trusted anyone after what had happened to the previous lords, Meldorath and Orlin. Lord Eldus has never met Meldorath and does not know of the magical world. He can't destroy the only source of information he has that might reveal what Meldorath did. Hillport is being attacked. Riva Rohavi's soldiers launch an attack on the castle. Is Lord Eldus ready for battle? How will he safeguard his family?
The author did an excellent job of including a series of words and phrases that explain their meaning to readers who are unfamiliar with the subject. He also revealed Meldorath's backstory, which helps us understand his personality traits and why he's important to the plot of the story. Matthew Tysz has beautifully summarized the ending of the book, answers questions, and ties up all the loose ends.
I enjoyed seeing Galen's character grow and change. However, I believe Matthew did not develop his storyline sufficiently. I'd rather have seen him forge his own path without Rowan telling him what to do. Although Marshus survived the attack, the author does not explain what happened to him. His disappearance raised an eyebrow in my mind.
This genre makes me wish I could live in a fantasy world. I would love to read another book by Matthew. I admire his creative mind. I discovered errors, but they had no effect on the content. I did not find any grammar, spelling, or typographical errors. Therefore, I will rate this book four out of four stars.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under the Great Sky is a fantasy thriller that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys reading about magical worlds. This book will be appropriate for adults and teens, but not for children.
