Review of Soul Train
When we complete our sojourn on earth, we are to give an account of how we lived our lives and we are put in places of either commendation or condemnation according to our deeds.
In the book Soul Train written by T.C.Husvar, Joshua, a seventeen year old teenager seemed to have unknowingly found himself in a train ride of the afterlife after a near-death situation in reality. Each passenger has a ticket and is dropped off at each station bearing the addresses on the tickets. Some stations have demons who escort their newly admitted inmates 'home'. Joshua happens to meet and make friends with some people on the train, each of them having a story to tell as to what brought them there and why they would be dropped off at certain stations. Joshua nearly traded his ticket with some of his friends whom he felt that they deserved not to be dropped off at certain stations. Unknown to him, his ticket everyone wished they had gets stolen despite the caution from Teff the conductor to guard his ticket and is replaced by the dreaded END ticket. Will he find his ticket or will he take whatever that comes with the consequences of his carelessness?
Husvar's book is simple yet intriguing and imaginative. It is a combination of suspense and the supernatural. Products of which would leave readers curious and wanting. It is an imaginative detailed structure of what the after life looks like and why we should always make right decisions and most especially not giving in to people's thoughts about one's self.
The author employed emotions, suspense and humor in his book. There were laughing moments and emotional moments. There was an emotional moment when Joshua had a flashback of his past in school where he was bullied and thrown inside a pool covered in feathers when he said " Why! Why do they even pick on me!...It's not my fault...is it? All I do is draw and write and stay low...
There also was a suspense-filled moment when Joshua lost his ticket and one could think he would never get it back.
As I read this book I remembered a movie, Last Day because it was all centered on the reward those who had lived their lives well and those who had not got in the end of their life's journey. This book would make a great movie because it has the right characters for it.
Soul Train would be entertaining for curious readers especially the suspense-filled parts. I do not think there is anything to dislike about this book. This earns it a 4 out of 4 stars.
I would recommend this book for readers who would never resist a good dose of the paranormal. In addition to the many lovable things about this book, I found no error in this book.
