Review of Agatha the Beloved Queen
Agatha the Beloved Queen is an extremely unique read. Giving you journal entries mixed with fairy tale story additions, but beautifully blended to guide you through a journey with Queen Agatha. Despite all the tribulations she goes through in her life, she still strives to see the good in all her people. Finding the most amazing ways to get them to work together to build a prosperous life for all. The kindness she exudes is shown from the very beginning, when she’s just a child, throughout the entire book. The Traveler also gives us insight into the lives of the many people she helps as well. Some are children whom you also get to experience their lives as they grow and the kindness they spread thanks to Queen Agathas' example to them when they were so young.
One Quote The Traveler gives us from Agatha sticks with me “Whether or not one clothes the body is of little consequence. That we be kind and helpful to all people should be our prime goal in life.” This is very true even in today's society with everything going on. The love and strength kept me wanting to continue reading.
There were many moments I laughed, a few I was close to tears, and the whole book I am continually rooting for the people Queen Agatha rules over with love and kindness. The journal entries from the traveler mixed into the story provide amazing context to the world you are engulfed in.
The only negative I can even consider for this book is that at times the Old English was a tad confusing so I did look up some phrases but truthfully it added to the book's charm. Because of that and how it's exceptionally well edited, finding no errors myself, I would rate this book a well-deserved 4 out of 4.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy novels or even those who enjoy historical fiction. With the mild sexual content and some small snips of profanity, I would advise this novel for a mature audience. While being transported to another world in another time, there are quite a few moments where you can tell that Author Fred Pilcher knew historically what would be accurate in the medieval age. The flow is smooth and leaves no loose ends. Agatha the Beloved Queen transports you to a world where you see the best and worst of people, but in the end kindness to others always brings strength to persevere.
