Told about stories of the past, how there was equality amongst the species, and how they were working together to inhabit this planet. Until the Vexor species arrived, then shortly after a virus spread almost wiping out all of the inhabitants, except for the Vexors, who were immune to the virus. Now 300 years after the Vexors have come to power, everybody now lives under the new laws instated. They have extra privileges, like Vexor only restaurants, the citizens of Vexor City have accepted this way of life and are convinced they cannot change it, except Dylan McLeod who wants to change everything. Dylan, a young man with big dreams, and son of Brian McLeod who owns the XR2 hover car factory, is unsatisfied with the current situation that civilians of Vexor City have to live through. Brought up in a higher class of citizens, people envied Dylan, as he always did have more than those around him. Watching the different species get abused by the Vexors, and being taking away by black hover cars to a location unknown to the public over petty crimes, such as curfew. Dylan has had enough of the way things are, so he starts to investigate an abduction by the Vexors in control of the city, the discoveries made will bring new purpose to Dylan’s life.

Dylan McLeod was exciting, I could relate to his personal conflicts, discovery, and growth. The story was constantly unfolding every chapter that I read. J. B. Christensen did a magnificent job not revealing the whole world at the start, but gives you the important and relative information as the novel progresses, avoiding a boring prologue. I enjoyed most of dialogue between the characters, as they were usually short and kept the plot moving, also the humour in some of dialogue added more depth to the characters personalties and their relationships.

Some of the combat skills that the characters possessed, I do not think matched their combat history. A general example would be, while you could get very good at martial arts, it would be hard to constantly keep training with the tasks of everyday life, to be at a point to take out ten secret service agents in one room.

Dylan McLeod - Vexor City was an exciting story about a young hero, while trying to stand up for others, he is trying to figure what kind of person he wants to become. It’s a great adventure that has the characters facing different challenges along the way. I give it 3 out of 4 stars.

This book is great for sci-fi fans, the whole story takes place in Vexor City, there is no space travel. J. B. Christensen did a fantastic job delivering an extraterrestrial world to the reader, and a fast paced adventure that has a relatable young hero.
