Genesis Awakensby Akorede Adekoya and Howard Haugom follows the story of Genesis after she returns home from college to attend her grandfather's funeral, Genesis finds a powerful object in his barn. The discovery enlightens her
events of the past. Genesis will have to overcome her newfound powers as well as four ancient immortals, only time will tell if she will succeed.

One positive aspect is that the book is well written with appropriate language and descriptions, when given. The book is also exceptionally well edited. I also enjoyed the fact that the love interest, Mark, holds some meaning to the plot and is not just there to help our protagonist. Sadly, the negative aspects far outweigh the positive ones.

The negative aspects are that even though the story is well written, the plot lacks substance. A third of the way through the book, I felt that the plot had only begun to develop as only now a major twist is introduced . Our main protagonist also feels underdeveloped with very little personality. It seems as though the author was more interested in a plot based which is understandable given the extensive nature of the plot but I still think Genesis did not get enough character development .Even though our protagonist is in her twenties, her demeanor comes off as a person still in their teenage years.
Also in the first few chapters we are introduced to Genesis have a drug addiction but after the first few chapters the plot line feels as though it's been abandoned and adds nothing to the story. The chemistry between Genesis and Mark - our love interests - feels very forced, with very little actual chemistry as they have nothing in common and no physical reactions to each others presences is shown, a racing heart, sped up breathing etc. Lastly, I felt that the magic system was problematic and underdeveloped as we only get vague descriptions of how the magic works.

I rate this book one out of four stars. I would not recommend this book to anyone as I am unsure of the intended target audience as our main protagonist is in her twenties but the plot is written like a ya novel. This book had the potential to be one of my all time favorites, yet fell completely flat. This book is a waste of a person's time and I strongly disagree with anyone who says otherwise.
