Genesis Awakens The Footnail Series Book 1 by Akorede Adekoya and Howard Haugom was quite interesting. This book is about a supernatural and spiritual war between the nail bearer, her protector, and the Accursed. It all began in 327 AD with Empress Helena, her protector Calisto, hunting for the three nails from the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Once Helena found the nails, she discovered the power they held, and she knew that she had to keep them close because the Accursed would stop at nothing to get their hands on the nails. Back in Canada, Genesis is the descendant of Empress Helena and just starting her journey of discovering that she is a nail bearer. Gen returns home from college upon her granddad's death from years of being away. Soon after her granddad's memorial, Gen finds the footnail, and her touching it gives her visions of biblical times. She then learns that she is a nail bearer with great power.

What I liked about the book was the storyline. It was a mixture of biblical history, mystery, and fantasy. I enjoyed the background story of the nails and the visions of Helena and Gen. It made me envision each scene as if I was there. I loved the relationships between the protectors and the nail bearers. You could feel the power and love between the two.

What I did not enjoy about the book was the story and chapter transitions between the past and present. The story would transition mid-storyline, and I had to piece together the scenes to get back on track. I wished there would have been more details about the characters. I wanted to know more about Helena and Calisto from being the past nail bearer and protector. I also wanted to know more about Genesis' family dynamic. I can only assume there will be more character details in the next book.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 even though it was a good read. I lost interest towards the end of the book. The beginning of the book started well, but halfway through, it was a slow read. I found myself wanting more from the story.

I would recommend this book to young adults and up who would be looking for a book that has biblical history with a twist. They would enjoy this book.
