Timewise by Robert Leet is a fascinating book. It follows the life of Ron Larsen from the age of 13. He was an orphan and never received any attention or affection from adults. One day he met a captivating person by the name of Dr. Regina Russo, a physics professor. She took an interest in our young Ron while they were playing chess. Throughout the novel, from the time they met when Ron was still in middle school, until after college, Ron and Regina kept crossing each other’s paths. During most of their interactions, Regina would explain to Ron the world of physics. He kept returning to Regina, discussing subjects like quantum physics, relativity, dimensions, the concept of imaginary time by Stephen Hawking and also other scientists' theories. Regina started talking about her own theories regarding time travel within physics. Ron started feeling concerned for Regina’s mental health because Regina seems to believe that time travel is a real possibility. After high school, Ron got into some trouble and when Regina found out about it, she approached Ron and told him she would pay his way through college. She would also add an extra payment for every A he achieved. Ron accepted the deal immediately. By the time Ron received a scholarship at the University of Washington, Reginas’ crazy theories were a real concern for Ron. He just wanted to collect his last payment from her and leave for Seattle as soon as possible. Regina said she would prove her theories to him the next time they meet. In Seattle, a Dr Preston Thayer, his college professor asked Ron how he would go about predicting the ups and downs of the stock market. In opposition to the previous student's strategy, Ron offered a theory off the top of his head. His professor asked him to present his strategy to the economics department. It was immediately accepted, and he was given approval to research the project. Ron was teamed up with Dr. Sheila Park, an economics student, to start on this project. Sheila’s father generously provided the funds for them to pursue their research and they quickly find success in their project. Ron and Sheila got married shortly thereafter and Ron became a successful businessman. Regina then contacted Ron, asking for his help. Unfortunately this “help” caused a strain on their relationship, and on top of that the FBI became involved, suspecting Regina of terrorism. Ron and Regina also struggled with a lot of challenges along the way. The biggest challenge is Reginas’ resolve to prove to Ron that she can make time travel possible.

Robert Leet has an excellent way of explaining physics throughout the novel. As a professor, Regina taught physics to a 13-year-old and continued to teach him until he reached adulthood. This is something even people who do not understand physics can follow with ease. I don’t have any interest in physics myself but this book was very well researched and well written. I was a bit conflicted when nearing the end of the book. At first I was disappointed, but then the last few pages provided a twist which ended the storyline perfectly.

The author explained how he believes time travel is possible through changing current theories. I enjoyed how the author explains his theories rather than just saying time travel is possible and he kept the story and the concepts realistic. Knowing the background of the main character was also a pleasant touch and the challenges he had to overcome to grow up into a successful businessman. I found that the novel has been professionally edited and that it contains very minimal profanity.

The main character seemed to be very smart and had the ability to accomplish a lot in life, however, he didn’t believe in himself and only wanted to do the bare minimum to ensure a large income. The lack of money also kept him from becoming successful. As a result, Regina's bribe gave him the opportunity he needed to further his studies, although most of the time he wanted to give up his studies. Whenever he becomes interested in something, it's because a woman fascinates him, and not because he wishes to improve himself. Even though I am not fond of these characteristics, they keep the character interesting.

I will rate Timewise 4 out of 4 stars because even people who know little about physics can understand what is going on in the book. The story itself is written very well and reads easily.

This book is recommended to those who are interested in physics and time travel in general. Throughout the novel, there are a lot of love interests, for those who love romance. The mystery in this novel also keeps you guessing what will happen next.

Timewise's portrayal of time as both a constant and a malleable force adds layers to the story, leaving readers questioning their own understanding of time.
