Review of Legacy
To date, we have many theories and shreds of evidence supporting that humans have evolved on Earth, among which the most widely accepted theory is that our ancestors were Great Apes. What if all of these theories are a lie? What if we humans are some extra-terrestrial species on Earth? Sean T. Smith takes us on this journey of these possibilities in his adventurous book Legacy, where the lives of 8 people change in a span of three days.
The book starts with introductions of the characters in the first few chapters. The story commences in 33000 B.C. with Nwarht in an unknown place. Things start to get interesting when for the first time in 25 years, the world experiences a nuclear event. The Luna Corp Observatory Gets hit by a blast, and two people, Sarah and Rick, are struggling to stay alive. The director of the NRC, Richard Bustos, is informed of the nuclear blast and leaves to investigate the matter with Major Philip Lucas. Also, Jessica Bustos, J W Durate, and Bryce Costa get involved with David (the alien). Did David come to our planet to help us or destroy us? Who started the nuclear explosion and why? Does Nwarht have some connection to it?
The timeline in the story ranges from 33000 B.C. to 2046. It is probably confusing in the first few chapters, but it comes along as the story proceeds. We get to know a little backstory of every character and the reasons for their current actions. It also made me think that what if all the possibilities mentioned are fact-based? (It may be possible, right?).
My best-liked character was Bryce Costa because of his sarcastic yet funny and honest identity. I liked the relation between Bryce and Jessica. Jessica was all brains and ambitious about her work that sometimes she didn't see the reason why some things are the way they are like she thought about researching DAPk. Bryce tried to make her understand what she was hoping to do with her research.
"Jessica, life is only special because it always ends. It makes room for something else." (from book).
Overall the book has an engaging plot but; at times, I lost interest when there was too much description.
Profane words are to a bare minimum and used in the right places. I recommend this book to readers who love to read futuristic science fiction, action, and suspense. I rate it 3 out of 4 stars because of its creativity, intriguing plot, and professional editing.
In some of the last chapters, the author has left a few bits of information that may lead us to get a sequel to the book. If the sequel happens, it will be an engaging read to where the story leads.
