Review of Dark Matter Empire (Book 1)
Ryan Stathis is an aeronautical engineer whose typical day involves running through the various simulations that are necessary to keep military aircraft running optimally and guarantee his employers stay happy. During one of those late nights at the simulator Ryan clocks out late but before he can leave the premises he spies something completely out of place on the grounds. A weird craft unlike anything he's used to. If that's creepy then the creature that exits the craft seeking things unknown can best be imagined. Ryan's attempt to be a hero lands him in a world of trouble literally speaking. He is about to find out that we are not alone in this solar system. The fate of millions rest on his next decision. Ryan Stathis; man, saviour, harbinger.
Dark Matter Empire Book 1 by Alex Zadeh is a science fiction piece depicting one man's battle against an overbearing enemy. Set across the farthest reaches of the galaxy most of the action takes place around the fictional Zenolar chapter. That the author goes out of his way to create some sort of link between Zenolar and our solar system is a nice touch which gives some realism to the storyline.
The characters may be few but are reasonably well fleshed out. With a somewhat basic back story to each of them. It helped with understanding the overall storyline. Alex Zadeh uses an easy to follow style of writing his story that will appeal to those who would rather prefer not to dwell on side talk. The storyline is blunt and throws you right into the action from the first chapter. So much for looking for where the suspense picks up. This adrenaline fueled piece doesn't let up on the action till you drop the book. Even the casual scenes such as the stop over at the Salty Shiproom are high on testosterone. That's definitely guaranteed to hold any reader's attention.
The one downside about this book that stands out for me is the lack of a more thorough origin story. For a book that looks like the first in a potential series I expected more attention to such details as the origins of the Lithirian Empire. In my own opinion the author's attempt seemed basic and didn't really do justice to the book.
Science fiction genre readers will definitely love this book. The storyline is straight up intergalactic battling and there's just enough of a role player hint to it. Action junkies should also feel free to tuck into this book. There's more than enough to go round.
Dark Matter Empire Book 1 packs quite a punch for a first book in a series. The editing is pretty good as the errors are minimal and the storyline is exciting from start to finish. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I look forward to reading the sequel.
