Review of The Different Kinds Of Monsters
The Different Kinds Of Monsters by Seth Chambers is a fictional novel that follows the life and adventures of Dylan Armitage, his mother;Ariel and his father;Tom. As a child,Dylan is very much obsessed with dinosaurs and he has a very strong imagination that blurs the fine line between actual reality and created realities.
As a young boy,and even up to adulthood and fatherhood,Dylan never really had a stable or permanent home; he always moved from one city to another, because he believed that he was hunted by monsters and these monsters were out to harm him and every other person that he loved, however,in the process of saving those that he loved,he discovers that the monsters he tried to escape, also hunts those that he tried to protect.
While reading the novel, one is easily captured by Seth Chambers' awesome story telling technique. The reader is captured from the first page and the suspense is thrilling. The author skillfully mixes the past, present and history in such a way that there is a strong cohesion and whatever follows after flows very easily.
The author leaves the reader questioning reality and fiction; how does one person's reality differ from the other person. What makes one person's reality the truth or correct and what makes the other person's lies or incorrect; what has society termed sane and/or insane. This made me really enjoy the whole reading process.
The Different Kinds of Monsters is a very great read, captivating and really humorous. However,a trigger warning should have been placed, because of people who have had traumatic experiences before and have been made to feel like they were either telling stories or were seeking attention. This novel may trigger unhappy memories from such individuals, hence the need to be forewarned.
I would rate the book a 3 out of 4 stars. This is because the novel really touches reality in a way that is relatable to almost all who read the work. What others may deem monsters, may not really be the ugly creatures that rear their heads in the darkness; rather they are pat traumas or pain that we hide and bury in one part of the brain, hoping it never comes up,but it never really heals also.
I would recommend the book for whomever is interested in a great read, whomever is interested in the perfect blend of humor, pain, fear, love and every emotion that the human being is capable of possessing. However,I would not reccomend for victims of abuse, torture or any form of traumatic experiences. I would also not recommend for younger audiences,as well as overtly religious persons/fanatics.
I would also like to state that I only noticed one error, which goes to prove that the novel was exceptionally and professionally edited.
