Review of Fish Wielder
Fish Wielder is the first book written by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison. It is a high fantasy novel story with a touch of silliness added to each of the main characters and extra sassiness being the cherry on the top. You will laugh.
I am honestly giving 3 out of 4 stars for this book. Because it is a good enjoyable read and engages the reader with funny commentary between the main characters, who happened to be a boozer, the great Thoral mighty fist and a talking fish, Bradfast. Also, the warlord horse, a loyal companion who understands the talking language. The plot revolves around these three characters whose adventures are for life and enjoy their treasure hunt with booze and doze off until the next one. As their expeditions continue, they come across a tale of chocolate pudding in a dangerous place, whoever eats it gets an amazing reward of ruling the world. To save the pudding from falling into the evil hands, Thoral and his companions set out for this adventure and face their worst enemy, the Heartless One.
The book is exceptionally well-edited by the editors and I did not find any errors in it. Because of this I thoroughly enjoyed it. I completely perceive the author's point of opinion when it was mentioned as humorous in the synopsis of the book. It is funny, witty and wholly diverse in the emotions depicted by the characters. At one point, it is action and the characters are on the verge of their lives. On the other end, they were making fools of each other while crossing each hurdle and that was crazy. The author had jotted down the story with a detailed description of each character and their connection and what it means to one another. The life of an adventurer never stops when you have great companions who have your back all the time. The last chapters of the book leave you open-mouthed for a while. You know how the writers are.
As it sounds good till now, there are also a few things that I found unclear and ambiguous while reading the book. Firstly, at the beginning of a few chapters, the main characters are introduced with too many names and I felt there are too many people with whom, I am not capable of comprehending who is to whom and what. For instance, the talking fish was called koi fish, Bradfast and koi. The reader gets confused about whether they are different characters in the story or persons whom they are not able to catch up to in the plot. It would have been nice if the author mentioned the names beforehand. Secondly, I appreciate the writing style of the author but the point of view of the characters are getting mixed up with one another and I find that a little disturbing.
This book is usually different from the genres I relish but I still enjoyed it. I would like to recommend this for a one-time read to fellow readers and it is funny.
