Review of Timewise
Life is not easy as an orphan, nor is it very comfortable. For Ron Larson that had always been the case, until as a youngster, he discovers that he has a talent for mathematics, a field he grows to love.
Ron’s keen mind catches the attention of an eccentric, but intriguing physics professor, Regina Russo. The two strike up an unusual friendship when Regina convinces Ron not to waste his talents and offers to pay for him to study further.
He accepts, completely immersing himself in his studies and achieving academic success., Throughout this time Regina shares her elaborate and unprecedented theories on time, perception, and how the Universe works with Ron, who is both inspired and vexed by her way-out ideas. When Ron leaves for Seattle to complete his Ph.D., he leaves behind his beloved Regina and their unconventional discussions.
For his thesis, Ron needs to design a mathematical model for accurately predicting stock market fluctuations. He teams up with an equally gifted student, the wealthy heiress Sheila Park, who convinces him to leave Seattle and pursue this objective in the real world of finance - New York. With the corporate backing of Sheila's wealthy father, they head up a brokerage firm to test the complex prediction model they had so long and arduously designed.
Despite the phenomenal success of their model, when Regina Russo contacts Ron unexpectedly, he is quick to leave behind his newfound life of recognition, luxury, and wealth to assist her with a project she is working on. When Regina shows Ron her method for predicting the stock market using the principles of quantum entanglement, he realizes she has discovered a way to view actual events before they happen. This leads to a whirlwind of discovery and exploration as they venture down a dangerous and uncharted path. Science-fiction transforms into reality and secrecy becomes paramount.
This is a remarkable book for anyone with a love of science. The science is well explained and the story is refreshingly original. Robert Leet does an excellent job of imparting several complex scientific concepts in as simplified a manner as is possible and throughout the book supports his story with plausible validation.
Timewise will make the reader see the Universe, life, and how everything comes together from a very different perspective, the book had a lot of depth.
The only negative comment I could make towards this book is that some of the scientific theories Robert Leet included were too detailed and too complex. I understand that simplifying them is not easy and although he did his best, in some places the book read more like a textbook than a novel. Also, unless the reader has a good general knowledge of Newtonian, Einsteinian, and Quantum physics, much of the science would be completely lost on them.
I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars, I loved the science and very much enjoyed the story. For anyone else with a love of science, Timewise is highly recommended. I would like to add that this book is not so much science-fiction, as it is a well-posited theory, written under the guise of a fiction tale.
