Chasing The Red Queen by Karen Glista is a paranormal fiction novel that features the life of Donja Bellanger and Torin Mancini. The novel is based on romance, paranormal creatures, mystery and lots of action. The life of Donja is turned upside down when her mother remarries. Donja's family leave their ancestral home to stay with Carson, her stepfather and his daughter Makayla. This move comes as a huge upheaval, with Donja resisting it at every turn. An unexpected bond between the two stepsisters is formed after relocating to their new spooky home, which is also centuries old.

Makayla introduces Donja to a new life, and one day while they're in a club called Observers, she meets Torin. This mysterious man has alluring eyes, which capture Donja in a trance. Torin, who is sexy as sin, falls head over heels for Donja. However, their romance story is not a walk in the park because Torin harbors deadly secrets that put Donja in unfathomable danger. Thrown into a world full of mystical beings that she has only heard as tales, Donja soon learns that there is another species that is scarier than she imagined. This Council that governs the Iridescents will go to extreme lengths to protect their kind. Donja becomes determined to unveil her Chippewa past, which lurks far more danger than she could have anticipated.

What I loved the most about this story is how the author gives a detailed description of the story's narration. It was very easy for me to form a mental picture of the events occurring in the plot. I adored the relationship between the two sisters, as I am close with my sisters, and it was something I could relate to. I also enjoyed the romantic scenes that are portrayed. They were sexual but not profane and graphic.

The novel had several grammatical errors which did not hinder the plot. The love affair between Torin and Donja also seemed to be rushed. They seemed to have fallen in love overnight, and it was unbelievable. Their courtship could have lasted a bit longer. I would have also liked to know what happened to some characters, like Becky, Heather and Kevin.

I would rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars because it was very entertaining. It had some emotional scenes that I enjoyed immensely. I would recommend this novel to adult audiences who like reading paranormal stories because it contains some romantic scenes and others that are violent.
