The Queen of Xana by Fred Pilcher is a story of Queen Agatha's life and rule over the mythical land of Xana. She was the only child of Queen Julia and heiress to the throne. When Agatha was a child, she got acquainted with different problems of the poor people and wanted to improve their lives. When it was the celebration of Agatha’s twentieth birthday, the evil sorcerer Magi killed Queen Julia and conquered the kingdom of Xana. Agatha became a new queen and had a responsibility to save her kingdom from the conqueror. Queen Agatha's fairy godmother told her that she needs to find her prince and couple with him to save her kingdom and destroy the sorcerer. The difficulty was that the prince came to Xana in disguise, and Queen Agatha had to identify him without knowing who he was. That was the first Queen Agatha's challenge but not the last. Queen Agatha encountered a lot of different obstacles which she needed to overcome during her rule.

I like how the author reveals the theme of leadership. Queen Agatha faced difficult problems from time to time, and it is interesting to watch how she dealt with them. She was very wise and always tried to choose the decision which improved the lives of her people. It was very important for Queen Agatha to help the common people to become prosperous. Queen Agatha opened a lot of schools, implemented new technologies in agriculture and other spheres. It was very wise that she wanted children to learn useful skills and independent thinking. She was always ready to listen to children's ideas and even invited some of them to her council.

Queen Agatha was kind, generous, and smart. The only thing which I did not like was that some of her punishments were very strict. For example, I do not approve of how she punished a boy who bullied other children. I understand that bullying is not acceptable, and Queen Agatha did not want that in her society. Anyway, I think that she could be more lenient with that child.

I enjoyed reading this book and rate it 4 out of 4 stars. This story is interesting, and the book is very well edited.

I do not recommend this book to children, as it contains some erotic scenes. I think that adult readers who enjoy medieval stories and politics would enjoy this book.
