Review of Zona: The Forbidden Land
Zona: The Forbidden Land is a sci-fi/adventure story by Fred G. Baker, plotted in the Russia's Siberian wilderness which will take the readers to a voyage in a weird place, habitation of uncommon plant and animal species. Being a hydrologist and historian, Fred G. baker has successfully delivered the story as a well-balanced combination of scientific endeavors and wild adventure.
Dr. Grant Taylor, the protagonist, a paleogeographer by profession comes to Russia after getting the news of his uncle's non-arrival from his last expedition to Zona, a forbidden land in Siberia. The Russian government too had declared his uncle dead. But after spending few days at his uncle's apartment, he finds some suspicious information about his uncle's last expedition which makes him to believe that his uncle is still alive and he should look for him. Another expedition is planned to the same land, staffed by twelve security guards, ten scientists including Taylor and his girlfriend, Irina, a head of the expedition, Volkov who was the only person left alive during the last expedition to Zona and Yuri, Irina's chaperon appointed by her uncle. So, does Taylor able to find his uncle and what kind of adventure awaits for them is all this story will tell you about.
The book is meticulously written in a flow. One can experience the adventure of Zona even while sitting in their couch. The scientific knowledge that is present in the story is beguiling. Author's meticulous way of writing, well describing all the events make this story more reprehensible to the readers. I got attached to the story from the beginning as the suspense was well maintained throughout the story. It was great that author didn't rush the story neither made it too complicated with overloaded scientific knowledge which made it easier to understand for a reader like me who has never been to an adventure.
There was nothing to be disliked in the book but one thing that was irksome in between was sexual scenes. The author has tried his best to blend those sexual scenes in the story, mainly in later parts but still it seemed to be unnecessary. The sexual scenario with multiple partners didn't fit well to me.
Overall, I liked the story and rating it 4 out of 4 stars. Even though some scenes seemed to be unpleasant, the writing skills of the author needs to be praised. It was well edited as I found no errors. Being in the sci/fi category, the story has been portrayed majestically as the readers can really imagine themselves being at Zona and undergo that adventure. One who loves science fiction or adventure story can go on without a doubt. There is no area to be unsatisfied. It fulfills all imagination that one can have in the wild. However, due to the presence of highly explicit sexual scenes it is only recommended to mature readers.
