The Twilight Saga fans, this book is for you! Chasing The Red Queen by Karen Glista is the ultimate supernatural fiction for you. I bet everyone of us who has watched The Twilight Saga or The Vampire diaries have, atleast once, been attracted to them (especially girls) and wondered what it would be like to come across one. Well, things don't end up the way we fantasize it. In this case, Donja Bellanger sets a perfect example for that. Although, it's not entirely a vampire she encounters, but something similar.
The story revolves around the life of Donja Bellanger, a 17 year old goth fighting the misery of loss of her father. She's like most of us, fascinating about a vampire, until she meets one. Things take an interesting turn after her mom re-marries and is forced to adjust to a new home in a new city. She's even forced to share her room with her step-sister Makayla Hampton. Her life is completely changed after she meets Torin Mancini, an ancient powerful spirit, who craves for her blood. Donja falls in love with him, but goes through a constant battle of accepting him and his kind. He's not alone. There are others too. The one of concern is a predator on killing spree who has imposed a treat to Donja and her family. Plus, there's so much mystery about her ancestors, the city and the reason behind her being amidst this crazy.
I really loved the book since it has a strong portrayal of love for family, war, hatred, violence and ancient history. The book was fast paced, hence it didn't feel monotonous. I found myself in the need to finish the book since I couldn't hold my curiosity. What I loved most about the book is the author's ability to paint a clear picture of every scene; even mentioning the brand names. Let's not forget the cover of the book. It's the perfect depiction of a character one would encounter in the book.
There's nothing I disliked about the book. I have come across grammatical mistakes but they were negligible. Sensitive people must be aware of the presence of vivid descriptions of rape and murder in this book. Also of erotic content. I recommend this book to the adult audience.
I would rate this book four out of four stars. Every character in this book has his own story. Although all of them are tied up by a single element- love.
