The Great Awakening by Arthur Seymour is a science fiction and fantasy book that happens after many years of Earth Won book, following the lives of Seymour and Ruby with their four children. This story is set in the future about a family living in a cave as a deadly virus called Comavirus spreads and the world goes to lockdown. As Comavirus spreads the doors of the cave get closed from the outside world. We follow a family as they face different problems and stresses of the pandemic. How their children feel as their schools close, and how they try to entertain themselves with their robots and technology. The father of the family, Seymour, and Paul try to detect this Comavirus and destroy it while they discover something new that no one in the world has the slightest idea about.

What I loved about The Great Awakening were the poems that were included in the story that Stacey read. I loved how their rhythms and words combined and formed beautiful and meaningful poetry. My two favorite poems from this book were on pages twelve and forty-six. The other thing that I enjoyed was the smooth flow of the writing as it was good and easy to read, also there were no complex sentences. Even some parts of this book made me smile as I read scenes about the naughty twins, Andy and Joey. In addition, I liked the new idea of QR codes inside this book because I think the author thought outside the box.

The only character that I liked was Ruby, she was an admirable character as well as the twins. Unfortunately, the other characters didn't have much characterization and I couldn't comprehend them. One negative point about this book was that I didn't get to experience the story with details, for example, there wasn't much detailed explanation about the cave's surroundings or how the laboratory looked. The story was mostly told and there was little showing, for example when Ester went out for investigation we were told what had happened in a few lines and we didn't get to experience the scene itself. Some parts were vague as I couldn't get what has happened but when I re-read them I understood. The other problem was that there weren't enough explanations about the characters that I forgot who they were like I forgot who Paul or Martin was but as I re-read the past scenes I remembered. There wasn't much conflict and tension as everything seemed fine and stable. Also, the story didn't go deep into what pandemic feels. Everything happened so fast like the story jumped from day one of lockdown to day two and then to day fifteen.

I give this book 2 out of 4 stars because I think the whole story was entertaining but there was still some space for more explanations and clearing of what was happening. I felt like the plot was a bit bland as I could guess what was going to happen next but if you are looking for a short, fun read, this is absolutely for you. Personally, I liked the flow of the writing but also I needed more details from the story, more explicit plots, better characterization, and more showing than telling. I think the story happened so fast and we didn't get to see everything. For me, it was a fair book as I like reading books which get me into thinking but this book is mostly for entertainment and that's why I give it this rate.

I recommend this book to young readers as it is a light book and for people who are looking for fun, entertaining books. There was no profanity as it is suitable for everyone. The Great Awakening was edited professionally as there was no spelling or grammatical errors. People who are looking for short, simple books which you can finish in one sitting, this is the perfect book for you.
