Review of Chasing The Red Queen
Chasing The Red Queen is a romantic fantasy novel written by Karen Glista. The story is about a teenage girl named Donja Ballanger. Since her father's death she is into the goth look, using makeup as a shield. Having to move from the town where she grew up, Benton Harbor, Donja has to face all the changes that comes with moving. She has to leave her best friend behind, her boyfriend, her grandmother and the place she grew up where her father was still alive. She believes it will be a difficult transition but with the help of Makayla, her new sister, she fits into the lifestyle quite easily. Donja and Makayla help one another through the new phase of their lives. Makayla becomes Donja’s shield and Donja becomes Makayla’s Prozac. But living in the Michigan Soo poses a great threat for Donja. She is the last of her kind, which makes her rare and everyone wants to get their hands on her. This puts her family in grave danger as well. Along the way, Donja meets Torin, an attractive older guy who has instantly fallen in love with her. They believe they can find a way for her to be safe from all the dangers. Will they succeed in getting her safe and having an epic love story?
This book is easy to read, the story is flowing and it is easy to follow. You do not lose track on what’s happening or get confused about the storyline, or the people in it. It is an exciting book, with a variety of different aspects incorporated into it. It contains history lessons, love, crime, battles and secrets. It’s easy to imagine the scenes and feel like it’s happening right in front of you.
But this novel is not professionally edited. It contains a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes. There’s a couple of places where there’s missing words. And in some places in the book it felt like there’s a whole conversation or paragraph missing. This gives you the impression that it wasn’t even re-read. With this lack of editing, I didn’t want to finish reading the book.
I give this book a 2 out of 4 stars. The story is great, it is full of action and drama and it would be really great to read if it was better edited. There’s constantly missing words which makes it difficult to read. I want to be captivated by the story and not constantly think about the spelling or grammar mistakes. It really has a great storyline, just a pity that it wasn’t professionally edited.
I would recommend this book for people who like fantasy romance novels who do not mind reading through spelling and grammar mistakes. People who like battles and crime stories with some romance in between.
