Review of The Wanting Hearts
Wanting hearts; book one of the Heartless series is an interesting collection of five short stories consisting of several genres that are a perfect mix of laughter and tears. All the stories were unusual and amazingly unique at the same time. The first story focused on a young lady named Sandy who was having a dream about somebody she hadn’t met before in her life. On the day she finally meets him, she realizes that she had been in a coma for the past twelve years. Her dream was very much connected to her reality, but it was very devastating.
The second story in the series is a science fiction story about the invasion of aliens on earth. While most alien invasion tries to picture their oppressive dominative nature against humans, this story is a beautiful contrast. Although it didn’t seem so at first until Nicko the main character in the story was told about the aliens’ rescue mission. The shock wasn’t in their rescue as it was in the fact that she became one of them strangely.
The third story on a stupid vampire was hilarious and inspiring. The author Nicole Jordan is a good storyteller who knows how to teach lessons dynamically. A vampire who feels entitled because of his rich lineage finds himself in need of a job to survive. When he sees he cannot get anything until he changes his arrogant attitude, that’s when he appreciates the value of the things he had before taken for granted and finds love in the process.
In the fourth story, a working-class lady named Cass was haunted by memories of her terrible high school days where she was treated badly by her schoolmates. Against how she felt, she decides to go to her school’s reunion. She not only finds out her adopted parents were werewolves, but that the town she grew up in was filled with werewolves. Getting past the shock, Cass was about walking into her happily ever after when she got aggressively attacked. Her existence was a threat, that’s why she was never loved by her peers in the first place.
Last but not least in the series is also a vampire story. It was the longest of the five yet the pace of the book was not toned down in the least. Alexander a vampire finds himself torn between the past and the present as he tries to save his fledging Clove. His fledging was once a human just as he once was before he became part of the vampire community. But there was a big problem, his Sire was not supposed to turn him into a vampire. It was against the Elders’ code, and there are consequences for breaking the code.
Reminiscing on the stories, it is clear Nicole Jordan aimed at writing extraordinary stories; stories with elements of the ordinary affairs of human life, yet very fictitious. I loved his writing style because of its simplicity. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars and that is only because there were a few typo errors. They won’t be obvious if the reader is engrossed with the story.
I recommend this book for as many that love suspense-filled vampire and science fiction stories. It is a good treat.
