Review of The Wanting Hearts
The Wanting Hearts is the first book in the heartless book series by Nicole Jordan. This book contains five different stories, ranging from supernatural creatures like aliens and vampires to well-known sci-fi/fantasy characters. The ideal disparity was that the author intended to reveal that the ending will not always be what we expected, whether happy or sad.
This book is a must-read for those who enjoy thrilling romance and obsess about mysterious things, as it is parallel to adult bedtime stories. These stories have a way of keeping your attention the entire time. The only dilemma is that endings are not always pleasant, as stated on the first page, so there should be no harm done.
My personal favorite story out of the five was the first one, The Dream. It has the most heartwarming plot and took me by surprise with a completely unexpected twist. As I read this one, I felt dreamy and loved the creativity of Nicole Jordan.
The second story, The Unknown Part One, is about alien abduction and is rather difficult to follow, but it's interesting enough to keep reading. It's a bummer that the storyline has not yet been completed since the first part.
The third one, You Stupid Vampire, dissatisfied me the most. It began with a fascinating plot, kept your hopes up, and then ended with the most boring and straightforward ending.
As my second favorite, I considered the fourth one, Reunion. The finale is heavily biased, but the progression is quite romantic.
The final chapter, Young Sire, is the longest of them all, with 14-chapters and no end in sight. The author had more chances here than in other short stories to demonstrate her potential to engage with the audience and improve her fictional characters, making the script better and more consistent.
To sum it all up, the author's writing style is similar to collecting scattered stories into one book; most of them will leave you feeling unfinished and unfulfilled. Some readers may be offended by the book's strong sexual content and verbal usage, and perhaps even the violence and homosexuality. The modest but seemingly pedophiliac aspect of the last chapter disturbed me greatly. Apart from that, I found that this book was a light and mellow entertainment as each topic is different and particularly special in its way. In all aspects, I rate 3 out of 4 stars for this book.
