Review of The Wanting Hearts
The Wanting Hearts by Nicole Jordan, features five stories. In The Dream, we find a troubled Sandy who lives most of her life with a childhood friend Emily. Sandy takes us through her short troubled dream, only for us to realize that she is dreaming in her comma.
In The Unknown part one, we meet Nicko a human abducted by aliens. Nicko faces some challenges and later transforms to an alien. We then encounter a self centered vampire Roma, in the third story You Stupid Vampire. Roma finds himself in a messed up financial crisis to a point of eviction after mindlessly spending his inherited fortunes. His main setback is the mentality about his high end ancestral origin and his believe that he does not have to work to fit in like other vampires.
Reunion is a story that pictures a young girl who suffers from law esteem issues. She was adopted by a wolf couple who could not get a kid of their own. Her esteem issues are heightened by the fact that her community is a werewolf one and she being a normal human. Cassy was different from her age mates and she often questioned this. She was in shock when she realized they were all wolfs and she was a wolfs mate, a wolf she thought was her dog friend since childhood.
In Young Sire, we find Alexander a vampire sired by a high ranking vampire Julius. Julius is later killed saving Alexander and this takes a tall on young Alexander. He is always on the run from Julius enemies. Things get worse when he sires too. He had to save the little enslaved boy Clove from his painful and tortured life. Julius is now a father and a protector, burdening his life even more. He is almost captured with Clove but escapes to go resurrect his sires parents who are the hope for the troubled vampire generation.
When I read the first page of The Dream, I did not get the thrill to continue, but again Nicole knows how to twist plots very sharply. I really fell in love with that aspect. It geared me to read the rest of the stories. Vampires, aliens and horrific illustrations kept my adrenal rush on point. The stories are fascinating and capture your trust to know the endings
What I loved about the book is the uniqueness of each story. From a dream to abduction, then meeting werewolves and vampires. Each character was uniquely portrayed. The way Nicole ends the stories is something I hated. Too abrupt endings when the scenes were at climax. I never saw the endings coming except in the story You Stupid vampire.
I loved the humour in the half sad stories. The editing was not the best Nicole could do and that makes me rate the book 3 out of 4 stars.I would not recommend this book for kids and teenagers. The Sire contains drug usage, violence and homosexual illustrations. Adults who like short stories, fiction and open to homosexual content could love the book like I did.
