Galen has grown up in the Land of Princes all his life. You would think, as the name implies, that the inhabitants of the land were well to do. However, there will always be the bourgeois in every society, and Galen happened to fall into the opposite class. If you were not rich or industrious, starvation would be your daily bread. And if you were living in affluence, you had to look over your shoulders lest misfortune comes your way. The Land of Princes was one struck with war and the devastations that came with it; when a way of escape from such a terrible place showed up, Galen did not even think twice, and he left.

The passing of his uncle is what facilitated his escape from the Land of Princes, as it was his uncle's wish that Galen would take over his forge and run his business. After a week at sea, he finally arrives at the city of Voulhire. He is quickly acquainted with the Mayor of the town and Rowan, his uncle’s executor, who is supposed to show him the ropes and get him settled in. They soon become friends. Little do they know the storm that is brewing in a pot as the kingdom would soon face subsequent attacks by Meldorath, a wizard who seeks revenge, and Riva Rohavi, a terrorist group out for blood.

I love how We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz begins. It is the first book in the We Are Voulhire series. The first part of the book reels us into a fight scene, and the book is packed with magic and supernatural entities. It is almost as if you are part of it, with the way the author vividly describes each movement and surrounding features. Mathew Tysz has done a great job in his character development. You can tell how unique each character is, and he has given them relatable personalities, which can be felt through their thought processes and speeches.

One of my favorite scenes in the book was when the fiery old man told the passengers on the boat stories about the cities they were each heading to in Voulhire. There was something mystical about the old man; he spoke like one with experience and wisdom, giving hope and also instilling a sense of fear and responsibility.

There were a few things that I disliked about the book. Firstly, in the reader format I used, the words were too small to read, so I had to use an audio reader. Secondly, it took me three times over to read the first few pages before I could understand what transpired in the opening scene. Finally, it took me some time to register the names of characters in the book because of how uncommon some of the names were.

The book was well edited and chaptered accordingly. The author's narrative technique was very engaging. I did not come across any errors or misspelled words, so I think it was exceptionally edited. The only major problems were those listed in the above paragraph. I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to adult readers who love magic, adventure, and a little suspense.

I actually have already read this book, so I know what it is about, but I still loved the way you summarized the story. I definitely agree that Mathew Tysz does a great job at vividly describing the world that he very thoroughly created, and as readers we can easily tell that he put a lot of work and time into it. Great review!

The author has done an excellent job of designing an entire civilization. When you look at what all needs to be done and connected, it is clear that it is not an easy task. Thanks for the good review.

Oh, I like him already.

I had heard quite a bit about his series and was actually of the opinion that it wasn't something for me. Reading your review, I feel like I might enjoy this.

It seems like an interesting story for readers that want to explore the particular trilogy. I would be tired to understand which character is whom and does what and I would probably dumb the book seeing that such over-information is provided. But probably this is just a phase for me. Either way, great review, thanks for a great insight!
