We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a fantasy novel by Mathew Tysz. There was a king back in the time who had four sons. The princes were against each other vying for the right to the throne. Then the king decided to send the princes away to nearby islands with resources to solve the conflict. However, shortly after civil war broke out. This book consists of stories of Gelan, who is from one of the islands of princes to inherit his great uncle's estate and work as a blacksmith, also includes Lord Eldus and other key people. Those stories introducing the world and history, then leads to a fate with a powerful mage, Meldorath.

The positive aspect of this book is that the author successfully created the detailed magical world. I also like that each character has an important role in this story, so it is a worthwhile reading. It is nice that a map of the country is provided in the book to locate each of the cities and towns mentioned in the story, so we can easily identify them. There are many new words introduced in the book, but the author provides a glossary to help readers. I enjoyed reading while imagining this magical world without confusion. Readers would feel like they are part of this magical world when they read this book.

The negative aspect of this book starts a little slow. I expected a climatic event like a fighting scene or something thrilling but that was not the case. I wish it were a little more exciting. Seems like there are other series of this book so I expect more things going on in next books. Another thing I noticed they would use some modern slangs in the book although the setting of this story supposed to be during the era that we were discovering science.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Overall, this book was a well written fantasy story. Also, this book was professionally edited. There were no major mistakes that bothered me. The story was well constituted and imaginable. I felt like a watching a movie while I was reading this book. However, I wish there were a climax that could excite me. As a fantasy story, I expected more fights and magic in this book but there was not much going on.

I would recommend this book to fantasy lovers and teens. If you love fantasy, you would not be bored reading this book. I think this book is also good for teens because there are not many bad languages or sexual expressions. If I were a parent, I would recommend this book to kids.
