Review by Chantelle G -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival ...
Galen begins a life finally freed from the Lands of the Princes, but he knows nothing about this new world of Voulhire. The home he managed to escape from is now behind him, but there is much he has yet to learn, more than just his late uncle’s vocation. There are organizations, powers, and politics at work far beyond his realm of understanding.
Meldorath is said to be dead, but whispers paint that rumour in uncertainty. If he’s as powerful as they say, and as dangerous, the world would have long been thrown into the ocean. But is it wise to believe him dead, or do only fools fear him still alive? King Wilhelm is determined to put such fears and rumours to rest, but he has more to worry about than one mad mage. While he is doing all he can to invest in this golden age, there are others who would much rather see Voulhire come to ruin.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies paves the way for a new saga to take its place in the fantasy halls of fame. Step into this enthralling world and prepare to get swept up in the tide.
Matthew Tysz has created something incredible. The whole story began with imagery that sucked me in from the first few lines. Expertly written, I think I’ve found one of my new favourites. I either loved or hated the characters right from the first moments I met them, but Matthew didn’t allow me to become complacent in my initial judgements. He showed me so many mysteries as he unveiled the plot unfolding in this complex and intricate world of science, religion, and magic. Now, I only want to read more to find out what will become of the inhabitants of Voulhire.
It was obvious through reading this book that Matthew is a natural storyteller and world-weaver. He incorporated so many elements into this story to create a believable universe I would love to spend more time visiting. I could imagine everything vividly as though I were walking side-by-side with the characters. Such a fantastic way to spend one’s hours.
If I have any complaint regarding this book, it’s that I now have a new series to add to my already extensive “to-be-read” list. Though there were a few profanities used throughout, they were used by characters to whom they suited. Editing mistakes were minimal, so all I can really say is that I can’t wait to read the next one.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The story and its characters were compelling, pushing the plot forward and driving my curiosity for what would be revealed next. Matthew gave away just enough to draw me into his world while shrouding the rest in mystery to keep me wanting more. As it was so expertly crafted from the writing style to the details that make up Voulhire itself, this book is deserving of full stars.
This is a book I would absolutely recommend. Due to the use of some profane language, I would suggest a more mature reader, but honestly, I’m so excited for this story that I say any fantasy buff should put it in their list, if not on their shelves.
