Review by Mikhil Saju -- We are Voulhire: A New Arrival ...
In We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, A young man named Galen Bray travels from his war-torn Hometown named "The Land of the Princes" to the land of Voulhire has he gets some kind of inheritance from his Uncle. The plot mainly consists of characters such has King Wilhelm king of Voulhire, Meldorath who is shown as an Antagonist whose death is somewhat shrouded in mystery, Lord Eldus of Hillport who along with his family tries to elevate Hillport.
Matthew Tysz has tried to involve us as readers in the very beginning itself and I think that it is a good way to start a book by giving us some Mysteries though I think that the author was trying to prolong the story events by adding unnecessary elements or trying to enhance our imagination which ever the case it depends upon the reader's perspective as to how they would take it. But the author is an amazing storyteller he has came up with creative ways to blend the physical (scientific) world with the magical realm.
The author has touched upon the real life aspects too. For example, A fun and interesting person comes along the way in our lives and gives carouse moments and then both of you individuals move on never to see each other again In this world of Voulhire what we see is the gradual unfolding of characters step by step like their stories, personalities, decision making processes etc.
There are few troublesome things like the concept of Destinism which holds that all sentient life have free will and at the same time everything is known by god even the future so the philosophical problem of God's foreknowledge has not been discussed and explained what kind of free will do the people in Voulhire have and other issue would be whether there are other better or bigger places than Voulhire but I think maybe it will be discussed in the next book to which I look forward to read anyhow Once you read this book there's no way that you probably won't crave to read the next part.
Overall, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Because the plot was good but it lacked character development and there were few grammatical errors with some minor editing problems so I think 3 stars would be well deserving for this book and I would recommend this book to those who seek for fantasy fashioned tale with historical fiction and magic and those who like dark themed fantasy novels.
