King of May, written by Matthew Tysz, is a tale of kingdoms as they exist after a significant event referred to as the turn which affected all things adversely. The story has many unique characters like Ashley and Scholar graduate students of the sniper institute for mercenary operations, who engage themselves on missions to kill gods. Also, the King of May; an overweight, ugly and tyrannical king who loves to dance and compels his subject to do the same. The King of May desires to command fear from all those around him, and in his quest, he approaches Cattleprod, a warlord whom he chooses as an ally, but as the story progresses, his true intentions become revealed. It is a captivating story of friendship, deceit, and betrayal. It was an engaging and enjoyable read.

I enjoyed the development of the characters and the story. The story was engaging; I enjoyed the beautiful scenery described and the fight scenes. The book was a very memorable one with several quests, including one where a god named Alden approaches Ashley and Scholar renowned for their prowess as great fighters with a preposition to kill the goddess Vera, his wife. We see the power of true friendship shown as Ashley proceeded on a solo quest to risk his life, as he takes drastic steps to recruits a band of mercenaries to fight alongside him and work to set Ashley free from imprisonment. There is a confrontation between the two strong leaders, the King of May and Cattleprod, and an epic battle ensues.

There are several profane and vulgar words used in the book. I did not think that the writer needed to use such words to convey the narrative. The vocabulary used should have been more subtle while still telling the story nicely. I also would have preferred if the writer used chapters along with titles.

The book edited well; I did not observe any typographical errors. There was a good character background as well as a good flow of the narrative. This book was a pleasurable read and should appeal to those between 18 to 45. This book presents an adventurous, exciting, and captivating story with great characters who pass across valuable life lessons.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The book was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The story was rich and captivating. The quests embarked upon in the book were exciting and, there were several unpredictable twists and turns.
