We are Voulhire: Someone Else’s End is the third installment of the fantasy series by Matthew Tysz. Following the events of the previous book, the focus of the series now shifts to Soulhire, Voulhire’s capital city. Galen Bray and his companions make their way to Soulhire in hopes of finding an audience with King Wilhelm to aid them in saving the city of Virko. However, the Voulhirian king is occupied with his own struggles as he deals with a controversial debate in the royal court. Dalehei Meldorath, the powerful yet dangerous mage, is hesitant in taking the next steps to conquer Voulhire, but an unexpected visitor in his dreams pushes him forward. Meanwhile, the Riva Rohari, a band of ruthless insurgents, continue to wreak havoc in the villages and towns of Voulhire.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. First, there are major and exciting developments in this book that really progresses the story, unlike in the previous book. Each event that happens here seems to have a significant impact on the general direction of the series. The author has also done well in focusing on the more important storylines, which sustained my interest throughout the book.

Second, the returning characters go through substantial character development in this book. Readers can expect to get a glimpse of the backstories of several of the characters. I personally enjoyed learning more about Galen’s past traumas and the unexpected skills he develops because of them. It has certainly added a lot of depth and complexity to his character. I also love the chemistry the author creates between Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius. In this book, their friendship is taken to the next level as they learn about one another’s secrets and vulnerabilities. Also, for the fans of witty banter and lighthearted shenanigans, this book doesn’t disappoint.

Finally, an element that makes this book so intriguing and exciting is its unpredictability. The author’s brilliant use of plot twists kept me hooked, resulting in me completing the book in one sitting. The book allows you to develop your own impressions and opinions about the characters, but from time to time, the author expertly reminds you that not everyone is as they initially seem.

With its fast-paced and thrilling plot, meaningful character development, and jaw-dropping plot twists, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There is nothing I particularly dislike about this book. It is a well-edited book with minimal errors. I would recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the series so far and want to continue their Voulhirian adventure. To fully appreciate this book, I would recommend unfamiliar readers to start from the beginning of the series, as references to the prequels are frequently made. Take note that the book contains some profanity and violent content, which may not be suitable for sensitive or young audiences.
