The turn, written by Matthew Tysz, is the first book of the series, The Turn. We have all at one point in our lives thought of our mundane way of life coming to an end and replaced by a new world order. Most of the time, we imagine some horrible events that would lead to a permanent change in what we call normal. So, I bid you the question; if all we are accustomed to turned upside down, what would life and the world be?

In this book, the author does his best to answer the question above. The book follows several travelers that each have found themselves suddenly adjusting to a different world. In this new world order, nothing good or beautiful, as we know it, is experienced anymore. When humans fight to survive on their own, the darkest parts of theirs hearts are exposed. While some people try to discover what happened to the world, others come to teams with reality and start to fight for sanity and control in what has become their everyday life.

The skill and intellect that each character has in this book is my favorite thing. The decisive thinking that the characters have makes this world of calamity much more real than fiction. I loved the grammar. The humor that the author gave the characters made the book funny, even in sad moments.

There is one thing I did not like, the language. It was rigid, harsh, and profane. Despite my dislike, this is what the book needed to bring out the despair in the characters. Another thing that made me unhappy was the slight errors that I had noted. Hence, I will advise another round of editing.

I do not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 13. The scenes and topics are not suited for children. Neither do I recommend anyone who loves stories that have love and romance to pick this book up. If you do, you will not like it. Yet, with that said, the story in this book is a masterpiece that I fell deeply in love with it. Fiction lovers, who love a thrill and are not weak-hearted, should rush and pick this book from the shelves.

Although the story written by the author is a must-read, there are slight errors that need to be corrected. As a result, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars.
