Review by milkgirl318 -- Solaris Seethes (Solaris Saga b...
Solaris Seethes is the first installment of the Solaris Saga written by Janet McNulty. The science-fiction novel follows a woman named Rynah from an alien world, which is destroyed. With the help of her grandfather’s ship, which was built with advanced artificial intelligence, and a group of humans recruited from different time periods of Earth, they must work together to fulfill a prophecy that will save the galaxy from being destroyed just as Rynah’s planet was.
I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It is fast paced from start to finish and includes an interesting and diverse set of main characters. All five characters come from different worlds, eras, and backgrounds, but find a way to work together and get through difficult challenges. This story is relatable to a wide age range as it is appropriate for children but fascinating to adults. The adventures the characters go on are action packed, engaging, and unique. In addition, although I enjoyed the writing, some adults may find the writing not very mature, but this was not an issue for me. I also liked the length of the book, being only 272 pages, it was fairly short, perfect for a person who enjoy reading, but doesn’t have a lot of time to do so. The book is also well-edited and did not have any major or significant typos that I could find.
Although I enjoyed the book, it was not perfect and there were some things I did not like. There are a few illustrations throughout the book, and though I enjoyed the addition, I personally did not like the art style, and felt that the illustrations sometimes did not match up with the description in the text. This was especially apparent when the author took the time to describe what a character looks like, but the illustration would look slightly different, which was confusing. I also had to adjust at the beginning, which throws you into the story, without a lot of background or information. This was a small issue, but as I kept reading, I quickly got over it.
I decided to give this book 3 out of 4 stars. There were a few criticisms such as the illustrations that kept the book from receiving four stars. The riveting plot, diverse characters, and fast-paced story was enough to give the book three stars rather than two. I would be interested to see where the story goes, considering it is a series and would love to learn more about the characters and what new adventures they would go on in order to save the galaxy.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys science fiction and adventure stories. I would also recommend it to people who like shorter novels, that are also fast paced. I would not recommend this book to people who do not like being thrown into stories or given a lot of background and information at the beginning of a story. I also would not recommend the story to anyone who is looking for a mature, high-brow, and thought-provoking story.
