Review by Ivvie Ivanova -- We are Voulhire: The Ascensio...
We are Voulhire: The Ascension of Akistry is the fifth book in the fantasy series, We are Voulhire by Matthew Tysz. Things are getting even more heated in Voulhire as the civil war and power struggles are escalating. The question now is which power will prevail?
After Virko was saved and Chalethire destroyed, a new era has begun for the Chaletharian knights. They are now on top and, what is more, the throne to Voulhire seems to be their next target. the power play is growing more thrilling. Across the nation, the tension is rising as Meldorath makes himself known. For out three main characters, life is also changing. Galen has a fascinating conversation with a certain someone and Dimitrius has some choices to make.
It wouldn't be a Matthew Tysz novel if he didn't introduce new complex and fascinating characters or reveal juicy secrets of someone's past. In this book, we get to learn about Meldorath's family and find out more about the mysterious legendary Akistry.
Like the previous four books, this one is also skillfully written. The pacing and writing are very consistent which I love in any series. I'm growing more and more attached to the characters, even their petty bickering over politics and influence. I loved the exploration of the Dire Vine Jungle and learning more about Akistry.
There is suspense throughout the whole book and it keeps me guessing what kind of secrets everyone keeps and what will they do next. I love that in a book! I also find the politics of the world fascinating, especially the external politics (if we can call it that) with the Emperor of Lullabies. That character and his domain make Voulhire seem so small in comparison.
I recommend this book to any fantasy lover who likes robust characters and stunning descriptions. I wouldn't recommend it to readers who always steer clear of any grisly details in books or are looking for a highly magic-focused fairytale-like fantasy world.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I love everything about the Voulhire series. I cannot praise the characters enough. The book deserves a full rating because it evokes the visuals in my mind as I read and I got attached to the characters which is a rare occurrence for me. I believe this series deserves more recognition and I highly recommend it. I'm excited to read the next book.
