Homecoming by Jude Austin was a spectacular ending to a two-part series. Homecoming begins around where the first book ends so I recommend reading the first book, Project Tau, before you read this one. You may not want to read this book if you don’t approve of profanity, or sci-fi fantasy.

Kata and Tau escaped Gentech in the first book, but were not free yet. Homecoming begins with Kata(Kalin) and Tau running to Kalins childhood home planet, Trandellia. But they encountered a problem when they got there. The high authority of Trandellia (Core Central) intervened. Kalin had been assigned an impossible mission by Core Central, and Tau ended up getting sent with a bounty hunter for a long trip back to the place he and Kalin worked so hard to get away from.

Kalin got dumped on a planet he was unfamiliar with due to the impossible mission, and in near death got saved by a field hospital that found him. Meanwhile, Tau was in a cage by himself trying to plot an escape. When Tau and Kalin were reunited, they still couldn’t talk to each other, they only knew that one another was safe. Eventually they found themselves in a courtroom, with their lives and freedom on the line, against the people who did them wrong.

Though Kalin and Tau end up separated throughout the large majority of this book, it is definitely a huge part of the story. I feel that Austin builds more of Tau’s character. Tau ends up making his own decisions, and figuring out how humans work without Kalin trying to protect him from everything. While reading the first book (Project Tau), Tau seemed more of a robot that looked like a physical human. However, in the book Homecoming, Tau is showing signs of becoming more mentally human by correlating his own understanding of things, and creating opinions. Kalin learns how to trust again, and Tau learns more about freedom and humans.

I definitely enjoyed reading Homecoming. I was sitting at the edge of my seat reading both the first and the second book. Between the different points of views throughout the story, and the suspenseful plotline, I never got bored. There was a lot of new information about the backgrounds of the characters, and even the history of the planets. I very much enjoyed reading Jude Austin's book, Homecoming; however, I feel I should rate this book a three out of four star rating, because in my opinion the story could have continued a little bit more on the subject of Kalin and Tau's relationship. I felt like the book ended with Tau and Kalin walking on eggshells. Could this mean possibilities of a third book?
