We are Voulhire: A new arrival under great skies by Matthew Tysz is a very interesting fantasy novel revolving the kingdom of Voulhire. It is suitable for young adults. The book introduced us to the kingdom of Voulhire which has just entered a golden age. This is a story filled with revenge and tussle for power, with every other person trying to get an identity for themselves.

The story begins with the protagonist, Gallen on the boat leaving one of the land of the princes – A land where it was either "death by the sword or a slow starvation". The story of the Emperor of Lullabies was told on the boat. He had four sons and he feared that they would rise to overpower and take over his kingdom. The emperor then made a decision to give each of his sons an island in order to distract them for a while and give him enough time to rule. However, he forgot that children would not be young for so long. Years after, a war began, leaving the kingdom in chaos and everyone with a mind of theirs, looking for ways to survive.

The protagonist, Gallen is presented as a one just starting life, on a journey of finding himself, discovering who he truly is. He is one character we can all find ourselves in. He decided to grasp the opportunity to leave the city to meet his uncle staying in Magnum Caelum in Voulhire in order to escape death and live a better life. Once Gallen gets to Magnum Caelum, he finds out that his uncle has passed away and he was left with an inheritance. On receiving the inheritance, he meets Rowan who delivers the final message from his uncle and he keeps him as a companion. At this stage, he goes on a quest of a better future in an unknown land.

In Matthew's We are Voulhire: A new arrival under great skies , I really liked the effort put into describing each character and place. The descriptions were so vivid that I could get a mental picture and be lost in the world of fantasy. The novel is really engaging and I could relate with every character. I also found Meldorath to be an intriguing character.

Although, the book was a bit confusing with the various point of views and trying to keep up with all the characters in every new chapter was difficult, the book was really exciting. However, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because aside the fact that it was really frustrating trying to keep up with the characters, it was well written.
