We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End is the third book in the We are Voulhire fantasy series by Matthew Tysz. Things are growing heated in Voulhire. Galen Brey is about to blow and so is the entire nation. There is no telling who will meet their end but the deadly chances are high for everyone in the country. A civil war has begun and not a single city or village in Voulhire will be as it was. It might even be bigger than civil.

In this book, many of the power struggles in the first two books reach a new level. Some people get what they were after, others do not, or at least not yet. There is no saying in this web of ambition and ideals what the outcome will be. As the strings tangle and snap, secrets are revealed and new ones are created. Whole towns are burning down because of it.

The writing style and pacing are consistent with the previous two books. There is less gore than the second book but just as much excitement. Stuff hit the fan, so to speak. The new thing here is that we have more POVs. Until now we had Galen Brey's perspective along with the third-person narration. This third installment of the series offers Rowan's and Demetrius's perspectives as well. We also learn more about the motives and ideals of the Riva Rohavi, chancellor Midius Maido, Meldorath, and another character who has been in the background throughout the previous two books.

And like I did with the previous two books I feel obligated once again to give a trigger warning for the sake of sensitive readers. This book contains the r-word for sexual assault although there is nothing explicit and there are no graphic descriptions. Nevertheless, such warnings must be provided out of respect for any potential readers of the series.

I highly recommend the Voulhire series to any fantasy and magic lover especially if they love a character-driven plot with masterful descriptions, tension, and immersive world-building. I'd say the series is a soft fantasy because it doesn't feature an intrusively magical whimsical world, so this is a great entry point into the genre as well. If you prefer a heavily magical fantasy with a lot of battles and creatures, maybe look elsewhere.

As with the previous two books, I rate this one 4 out of 4 stars. I love this series! I keep imagining what it would be like as movies or a show. I'm looking forward to reading the next book and anything else that Matthew Tysz has and will release no matter the genre or format.
