I give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies, by Matthew Tysz, 3 out of 4 stars. I found no spelling or grammatical errors, however there is mild profanity and sexuality. Sentences and paragraphs are well structured, flowing smoothly throughout making this book an easy read.

This is a story about a father/King, his sons/Princes, and their quest for power and control over everything around them. In typical oligarchy form, wealthy, ruling classes use people as tools for personal gain. People are used as pawns in quest for ultimate power and control. Hence, Galen, and others leave whenever opportunity presents itself.

Reading about Galen having to climb up three ladders, hence three decks, to get up and out of ship almost triggered a panic attack! With Galen, I breathed in the intoxicatingly fresh air; could feel breeze on my face and body. Thank goodness for that! That kind if rush though, is exactly why I read this kind of book.

Meeting Alabaster de Lasette was a real treat for me. As a paralegal, I always wanted to see some chaos cut loose in a stuffy old courtroom. I also loved seeing a not so senile old man set loose; no one present that day was safe!

I liked that each chapter was focused on a particular character. Had to really pay attention to each; how they related to one another. I appreciated Tysz providing references in form of maps and guide to common words, places, and historical matters. Apparently I am a reference freak even when reading for fun, and this book WAS fun!

I suck at geography, so I liked that author provided a map enabling me to flip back and forth from story to map, teaching me how to read both map and surrounding geography. Books like this, how written, structured, force me to up my concentration game which helps me in my fight against ADHD, Alzheimer's, and traumatic brain trauma. I definitely liked that.

I did not like that Tysz did not provide Table of Contents which helps reader keep up with where they are in story; provides good reference point. Call me crazy, but I like chapter numbers and this book doesn't have them. Chapter names are good, but numbers help when I need to go back and check something from previous chapters. For instance, when doing a review and I come across two different spellings for character in my notes, having both chapter names and numbers makes it easier to go back, find page and check spelling. I am dyslexic, specially with numbers, so matching chapter number, to page number, to reference number, really helps me with number issues. Chapter names and numbers, reference numbers, and page numbers work together helping me find what I am looking for; find missing piece of puzzle. With book series, more and more stuff happens, more and more connections have to be made, and more and more help is needed for me and other readers to process so much information.

I am a visual learner, so I did not like lack of illustrations. To help me and other visual learners better keep up with nine book series plot, visuals like charts, graphs, and illustrations would strengthen readers ability to make necessary links; to connect so much information.

I recommend this book for people who like magic, action, adventure, politics, and intrigue, just to name a few. There are so many aspects to this book I would not like the job of qualifying it to a specific genre. I cannot wait to read next book in this series.
