We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz is the second book in the We are Voulhire series. Virko is the heart of the industry in Voulhire, and with its tall buildings, industrious citizens and, great leaders, nobody thought that it also holds a dark secret. This book will give you thrill and anticipation with its new characters, more magic and, darker action.

Virko is the center of the story; from a city with nothing, it became one of the most abundant cities in Voulhire. Citizen and higher authorities want to change the city, but Lord Venden Hrelek the founder of the industrial land, didn’t like the idea, and he does something else. Galen, Rowan and, Demetrius travel to the city only to reserve iron, but they discovered more, as they met the dying Lord Hrelek, and heard his last wish. Events keep happening while Galen and his companions tried to solve the mysteries left by the failing lord, but more betrayals and lies were exposed as the story continued.

The author uses the narrative technique, where he helps his reader to visualize his imagination through his words. The narrative ends unresolved that makes the reader look for the next chapter. He also lets the readers be in every situation, using point of view, in that way, readers can see different perspectives, and feel the emotions of every character.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The first book was a great start, it made the reader wants more, but I find this book a standalone with just a little connection to the first book. I can’t rate it a 4 star because some part of the story was so detailed that it lost the impact and made it dry. The way the author builds up the story is so nice that I can’t give it a 2-star grade. If the author wants the reader to read the third book, then he succeeds with that, but he failed to make this an eye keeper.

I highly recommend it to the readers who love dark magic, action, and mystery; but with restriction for those underage, because this book contains profanity. Overall, this book has a great plot that makes you read more, and those exchange of point of view adds more excitement to the story. The mind-bending exploit happened will surely make you laugh, confuse, angry, and shocked, but that what makes you look for more.
