This is the second book I read from Christopher J. Penington and I like it even better than the previous one. I rate the book titled as Masters and Bastards with 4 stars out of 4. Definitely, this book is well edited, the scenes flow coherently and are quite descriptive to see them in your mind while reading it. This author has great writing skills because he was able to create great dialogues, detailed environment and the context of the novel.

The writer, throughout this novel, was capable to produce an alternate world in a further time where human beings no longer lived on earth. This novel has a likeliness with the intergalactic movies: Star Wars and Star Trek. As well, has a similarity with the ancient tragedy of King Oedipus, nonetheless, he transformed this mixture into his own.

I consider this novel a mix of action/romance/fiction/drama novel. The author was able to combine these four genres into one novel, amazing! As I mentioned before, this novel takes place in space in a further time, where life on earth is not possible anymore and it is purely fiction for the moment. It is an action genre because the main character, Andreas Marset, is a low-class but well educated Praetorian soldier, who due to his knowledge and battle skills is able to ascend quickly his army’s rank. Many battle scenes take place throughout the reading. The romance and drama is involved in the writing when he gets involved romantically with both princesses of adversary Imperiums in the galaxy.

This novel is oriented to a niche who likes intergalactic themed stories. In addition, the public who reads this book has to have a strong grasp on vocabulary; the author uses elevated words in order to follow on with the reading and really enjoy it. There are some violent and erotic scenes, moreover, the reader must be mature to “digest them”. What I really liked from this novel is how descriptive the scenes are and for instance I could watch them in my head. The writer developed quite great all the scenes and the dialogues. As a reader, you are able to get to know the characters’ appearance and personality. What I disliked the most was that some scenes were longer than they should have been and at some moments, I got bored but then I got excited again.

Overall, this is an original and great book. It has four genres in one and they are well developed. As I stated before in the other review, this book can become a movie. There is a lot of material to enjoy visually too. This author based from archetypes in order to create his plot into an original world.
