[Following is a volunteer review of "Solaris Seethes (Solaris Saga book 1)" by Janet McNulty.]
Solaris Seethes Review - I rate this book 3 out of 4. The storyline was intriguing and kept me interested throughout the book. The journey Rynah, our heroine, must take with Solaris the ship, spanning time and space is fascinating and a sci-fi world yet to be discovered. The use of time travel, worm holes and AI technology speaks to an advanced society and an interesting topic for a book of fantasy to stimulate the imagination in us all.
I was not particularly thrilled with the amount of context shoved into the story within parenthesis. I felt that the editing and sentence structuring needed a more professional touch. I felt there was not enough background and description information given at the beginning of the book. It was a little confusing at first to understand where the characters were coming from. I would have liked to know more about their home planet, lifestyle and culture there. And their history.
I enjoyed the different designs of the varying planets they traveled too and the play off of the elements used in them. A.K.A earth, water, jungle, frozen tundra...etc... I do feel the characters should have had more development in getting to know one another in this journey. But overall the book was still enjoyable and kept me interested. I did enjoy the development of each individual character's storyline and how they contributed to the adventure.
The varying creatures and characters are keep you wondering about alien life what it would be like to space travel in real life. But also, SPACE PIRATES!! Who doesn’t love space pirates!? And ice tigers and and yet inn the midst of it all you find a general connection, the mindset of “we are all the same” as there are so many similarities between all the characters lives. Even through all their different lives and cultures they have lived it boils down to the fact that they love and feel and hurt all the same.
Rynah's world is destroyed and the only way to save it is to travel through space with her AI ship and friends who time traveled from earth to search the universe for crystals. Throughout their journey Rynah and her companions become friends and learn to love and respect each others strengths and weaknesses. They support each other and work together to rebuild a lost Lanyr and in doing so they find themselves. This book seems as if it would appeal to pre-teen age group the most. It is a great, clean and family friendly story.
