The book “Asa’s gift” by Isaac Green tells the story of Daniel and his cousin Asa.
Daniel is a successful businessman who is about to become a father. Once his baby is born, Daniel and his wife realize, with the help of many doctors, she was a health issue and they are told that it has no solution. When they finally find a hospital where they are told they might have a solution they can’t find the baby and figure out that Asa, Daniel’s cousin who doesn’t talk, and is always being assisted by someone, took her to Lagrima, the town where Daniel and Asa lived when they were younger. With some help, Daniel goes after them for rescuing his daughter and in the process, he remembers many things about his time in Lagrima.

I liked this book because the story is an example of what many of us do, judge people just because they are different from us; we don’t really try to understand them or listen to them and often tend to exclude them or bully them. In here, they also show that just because they are different from us, that doesn’t mean they are bad or a danger to society and if we ever need it, they are willing to help us. Another thing I also liked is that they talk about they importance of family. They are always going to be there for you. Also, more towards the end of the book, the author shows that you must value every moment you have with your loved ones because you never know when is going to be the last one.

I didn’t like the parts with dialogs in Spanish because, to me, it didn’t really sound good or real. Also, I don’t know if it was intended to be a bad Spanish because the character isn’t a native speaker or it was just that the parts in Spanish had a lot of grammar mistakes. Another thing I didn’t like were the images, some of them were confusing and disproportionate.

I would recommend this book to everyone that likes stories with alien related things and has a little of comprehension or knowledge of Spanish, because there are several dialogues with words in Spanish and if you don’t know anything, it might be confusing to read.

I would give this book a 3 out of 4 because I liked the story and the values it transmitted, but I didn’t really like the images and, if the Spanish was supposed to be good, it had many grammar and some spelling mistakes.
